Steve Agnoli, CIO, Kirkpatrick & Loockhart LLP
Discussion: Today's CIO is typically no longer considered to be a technologist. Rather, his or her skill set is that of a "business advisor" who is (or should be) considered an integral part of the executive management team. Today's CIO is not often involved or interested in the "fit and functionality" of particular technology product. Rather, the CIO is more concerned with the business value that a particular solution offers to the overall operation.

“COMPUTER SECURITY THREATS FACING IT TODAY. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW"
Presented by: Mike McKeown, Special Agent, FBI
Vickie Malis, VP Marketing, Iron Mountain
Business problem: With the availability of more sophisticated software and an increase in employee discontent, more IT departments are finding their computers and data to be at greater risk both through the network and from behind the console. The majority of these breaches of security could be eliminated if IT personnel were made aware of the issues and threats beforehand in order to set policies and procedures to combat the threats.

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "SIMULATED SOLUTIONS FOR DISASTER RECOVERY AND BUSINESS CONTINUITY: A 360 DEGREE APPROACH TO STRATEGY, PROTECTION, AND VALUE"
Presented by: Paul B. Hugenberg, Sr. Manager, Information Risk Management, Crowe Chizek & Company LLC
Discussion: Simulation is used in most strategic decisions - from expanding into a new market to testing a new data system. This approach provides management with critical and REAL information that can be used to support a key decision. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, two resource consuming activities within most complex organizations, are littered with instances in which Management must again make key decisions. In that respect, simulation provides a unique and valuable opportunity to make an "expense" decision a "strategic" decision with immediate tanglible value.

"DATABASE ARCHIVING SAVES RETAILER OVER $500,000”
Introduction: Princeton Softech
Presented by: Mike Krugle, Dir. Application Engineering Giant Eagle
Business problem: Giant Eagle, a four billion dollar entity, maintains a PeopleSoft Financials database that was growing rapidly at a rate of 15% to 25% annually. This explosive database growth was taking its toll on the system, degrading performance, extending batch cycles, expanding disaster recovery windows and increasing the cost of operations. The long period of downtime required to upgrade to the next version of PeopleSoft Financials was unacceptable. Not to mention, Giant Eagle also had to maintain compliance with data retention regulations.
Solution: Giant Eagle’s IT organization took a unique approach, addressing the problem of database growth for the long term. They implemented database archiving for PeopleSoft Financials modules AP, AR and GL and met the challenge, improving application performance and availability, while reducing the total cost of ownership. This strategy addressed the immediate needs, while providing the basis for an enterprise database archiving methodology that can be expanded to other modules and applications in the organization.

“INCREASED INTERACTION OF THE CIO AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS”
Moderated by: Rich Yanke, Sr. VP & Director of IT, Sky Bank
Panelists: I.N. Rendall Harper, Jr., President & CEO, American Micrographics Corporation
Discussion: The role of the CIO is changing dramatically and this one time, techno-heavy position is now being populated by executives who can marry and seamlessly blend the technology side of the house with the business side of the house. How are they doing it? What are they doing to accomplish this paradigm changing strategy? This panel will explore the new roles of the CIO as they are being summoned more frequently to appear before the Board, the Audit Committee, the Risk Committee and the Budget Committee. We will explain why menemonics in the CIO's vocabulary like SAP, DSL CRM, and ERP are now being replaced by EPS, ROE, and ROI. Why are laws like Gramm, Leach Bliley, Sarbanes Oxley and the Patriot Act redefining the ever changing role of information technology within all industries and disciplines. This panel will provide you with the answers to these questions.

"PROACTIVE SERVICE LEVEL MANAGEMENT FOR YOUR END USER APPLICATIONS"
Moderated by: David Cohen, Account Manager, Compuware
Panelists: Bernard Abel, Manager IT Infrastructure, Del Monte Foods, Inc.
Rob Scarmuzzi, VP of Enterprise Performance, National City Corporation.
Ed Taton, VP of Managed Services, Intellinet Corporation
Discussion: Today, most application performance issues are reported by the end user- the external customer or internal user. They typically know about a problem before the IT team. How do I implement an application performance management program- by establishing, monitoring and reporting end user SLAs?
When end user response time and availability problems do occur, it is usually very difficult to quickly determine the root cause- it takes more time to identify the problem and IT group responsible than to fix it. How do I implement a rapid response program to greatly reduce the "mean time to resolution"?
Service Level Management is really a "next step up" strategy to all the other things that IT organizations do to support their systems; to prevent outages, and for quick notification and recovery when problems do occur.
End user application performance can directly impact the productivity- and top or bottom line- of your organization.

Moderated by: Steve Wirth, President, synergIT Incorporated (A PC Solutions Company)
Panelists: Gene Rindels, CIO, Traco Corporation
Mark Dietrick, CIO, Burt Hill Kosar Rittlemann & Associates
Richard Sikon, CIO, Institute for Transfusion Medicine
Business problem: As our distributed IT environments become increasingly more complex to provide competitive advantage, the costs to manage those environments skyrocket. Standardization, process enhancement and the deployment management technology can control these costs, but at what price? What is the impact on user productivity? IT solution: Finding your organization's "IT Equilibrium". Deploying IT Best Practices, such as IT Asset Lifecycles, Leveraged Software Licensing Strategies, Inventory Management, and Remote Network Monitoring, while maximizing user productivity.
