“THE ROLE OF IMS (IP MULTIMEDIA SUBSYSTEM) IN ENTERPRISE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS”
Presented by:Myron Gregorek, Sr. Technology Specialist, Lucent Technologies
Business Problem: The role of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) in enterprise communications networks has yet to be clearly defined, but network managers need to begin understanding IMS NOW to be in position to capitalize on the technology as it matures.
  • Key Questions Answered?
  • What is it? And where did it come from?
  • Why pay attention to it!
  • What is the vision behind IMS?
  • What does it look like? High level architectural overview
  • What is the significance of an access aware and an access independent application environment?
  • What are some of the promising applications on the horizon with IMS?
IT Solution: In the world of true convergence the network is brought to the end user (rather than you going to the network) and in a manner that is seamless, simple, personal, portable and presence aware. This can be accomplished through complete convergence across services, across networks and across organizations. Value over IP (tm) enables an enterprise to participate in and make use of a seamless lifestyle communications experience that brings the full capabilities of the network directly to the individual. The Value over IP (tm) stage is characterized by an ability to utilize services through fully operational converged Next Generation networks built on IMS Architecture.

“THE MOBILE AND REMOTE WORKFORCE – PROTECTING DATA AT THE EDGE OF THE NETWORK”
Presented by: Kevin Roden, CIO, Iron Mountain
Business Problem: As the number of remote and mobile workers increases, so does the amount of critical business data being created at the edge of the network. Most organizations tend to ignore this distributed data, leaving that information at risk. Availability and accessibility to critical business data means it needs to be protected and secure for recovery and compliance purposes.
IT Solution: Utilizing Continuous Data Protection such as PC backup and recovery, Server backup and recovery and DataDefense that automatically backup and protect distributed data that resides on devices operated by remote and mobile workers. Server and PC backup and recovery backs up and protects that data so it can be recovered. DataDefense is a multi-layered security application that can automatically encrypt and eliminate data on a laptop or PC if that device is lost or stolen.

“EMAIL ARCHIVING AND COMPLIANCE”
Moderated by: Brian McCarthy, CEO/President, Sencilo Solutions, Inc.
Panelists:  Michael Sooley, CTO, Akerman Senterfitt
Discussion: Email is the fastest growing business application today and it places unforeseen burdens on already strained IT operations. Organizations are now required to retain a greater proportion of email to demonstrate compliance with external regulations, adhere to internal policies, and prepare for possible legal discovery requests. However, email systems are not designed to store the amount of data that gets stored on the typical message system, and the risks and disadvantages of doing so becomes increasingly apparent. Archiving is the answer as it reduces the load on your mail environment, indexes content so it can be quickly located and recalled and reduces storage needs through single instance storage. The benefits of Archiving are substantial to reduce both cost and risk to any operation.

"ENABLING TOMORROW: LEVERAGING NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE TO SUPPORT EMERGING APPLICATION TECHNOLOGIES"
Moderated by: Ed Gogol, Director, Enterprise Systems, Solarcom
Panelists: Dave Hart, EVP & CTO, Integrated Solutions, Inc.
James Dekle, Director, Info Tech/MIS, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits
Description: Enterprise IT Infrastructure Architectures are in a state of flux. The emerging enterprise applications concepts of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), Web Services and Software as a Service (SaaS) promise to provide a loosely coupled set of software services that can be deployed flexibly and rapidly to support the business processes they automate. A successful migration to this application model will have significant dependencies on the underlying network, systems and storage infrastructure. Technologies such as virtualization, networked storage, and grid computing, are just some of the enabling innovations that can help us migrate from “siloed” environments with dedicated resources to a shared common architecture for all our enterprise applications. In the process we can maximize our investment in systems, networks and storage. In this session we will discuss the challenges of building a Service Oriented IT Infrastructure Architecture, strategies to overcome these challenges and ideas on how to leverage the enabling technologies to design, build and operate this infrastructure to support a scaleable, manageable, and secure enterprise application environment.

CLOSING KEYNOTE- “DISRUPTIVE, 'BACK DOOR' TECHNOLOGIES”
Moderated by: Dr. Craig Van Slyke, University of Central Florida
Panelists: Dr. Skip Sloan, Director, Architecture Framework, Lockheed Martin
Conrad Cross, CIO, City of Orlando
Harold Miles, Senior Security Analyst, Lockheed Martin
Discussion: As information technologies become increasingly enmeshed in our daily lives, individuals are exposed to an every-increasing array of technologies. In some cases, technologies originally intended for personal use make their way into organizations. Individual workers recognize the potential application of a technology to work tasks and begin using the technology in their jobs. While there are many benefits from these “back-door” introductions, there are downsides as well. The new technology may introduce security holes, fit poorly with existing architectures, fail to meet regulatory requirements, as well as other problems. This panel will discuss the two sides of “back door” technologies; how they benefit organizations, and how they cause disruptions.
