KEYNOTE ADDRESS - "ENTITY ANALYTIC SOLUTIONS: UNDERSTANDING 'WHO IS WHO?' AND 'WHO KNOWS WHO?'"
Presented by: John Slitz, Vice President, Entity Analytic Solutions, IBM Software Group
Business Problem: Building a clear view of the people and organizations with whom you work is critical to your business. You need the ability to recognize your customers, vendors, and employees in order to recognize fraud and enhance compliance.
IT Solution: Advancements and reduced costs of technology have permitted organizations to collect vast amounts of business intelligence on their customers, employees, competitors, and others with whom they interact. The present challenge involves using the information collected to build stores of knowledge that can be leveraged to increase the value of the organization. Entity Analytic Solutions (EAS) help organizations use their existing systems and data to build a clearer view of the people, organizations with whom they interact. EAS extends your Business Intelligence capabilities by adding the ability to disambiguate identities in real time, accumulate context, self-correct. This provides insight on demand and allows you to understand “Who is Who?”, “Who Knows Who?”, and the capability of doing all of this in an anonymous manner to enhance personal privacy.

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "CONVERGENCE OF CYBER AND PHYSICAL COMMUNITY"
Presented by: Larry Lynch, US Secret Service, Supervisor/Chicago Electronic Crimes Task Force (CECTF)
Jonathan Sawant, Special Agent, US Secret Service, Chicago Electronic Crimes Task Force (CECTF)
Discussion: Organizations spend a large portion of their resources on creating and maintaining a high degree of information security to guard trade secrets, to reduce the likelihood of direct financial loss, and to protect themselves from legal exposure due to a comprise or being found to be noncompliant. Many of these same organizations also have developed highly specific physical security practices to protect their employees and facilities from harm and financial loss. This presentation will address the risks associated when these two departments are not in sync with one another and how IT managers can take a strategic approach to strengthen their overall security by recognizing areas in which both their physical and cyber security practices should reinforce each other.

"MAKING SERVICE ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE (SOA) REAL IN YOUR ORGANIZATION"
Moderated by: Sophie Mayo, Director WW Services, International Data Group (IDC)
Panelists: Kerrie Holley, Distinguished Engineer, CTO, SOA Center of Excellence, IBM
Steve Graham, STSM, SOA Foundation Architecture, IBM
Discussion:The demands of an increasingly competitive global marketplace – driven largely by the networked world – are driving companies to find new ways to grow their businesses, while at the same time they must operate as efficiently as possible. Responding to competitive pressures and market opportunities requires business systems – and supporting technology infrastructures – to be quickly adaptable and flexible in structure. That is where Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) comes in. SOA takes everyday business applications and breaks them down into individual business functions and processes. An SOA lets you build, deploy and integrate these functions and processes independent of the applications and computing platforms on which they run. But with any new idea, an approach or strategy on how to implement in your enterprise is necessary. Moderated by Sophie Mayo, this panel of IBM SOA thought leaders will addresss the best practices to operationalize, standardize and fund SOA in your company and take your questions.

"RAISING IT INFLUENCE - SUCCESSFUL CIO'S ENHANCE THEIR INFLUENCE AND IT' BY IMPROVING PERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS"
Moderated by: Phil McEntee, Principal, Technology Executive Network
Panelists: Divakar (Dave) Kamath, Global CIO, IDEX Corporation
Tom Coleman, CIO, Sloan Valve Company
Darlene Carrao, CIO, Thomas & King, Inc.
Discussion: Solid communications skills allow the CIO (and key IT staff) to influence and effectively interact with customers, other business units, and key executives. It is the best way for the CIO to discover and understand the requirements necessary to support the business. It means taking a proactive role in the business – not simply reacting to problems of others.

Successful CIO's:
  • Work hard to earn the trust of both staff and colleagues
  • Lead their IT organization to help users, customers and other stakeholders succeed
  • Continually improve their professional communications skills to enhance personal business relationships and to represent the IT organization more effectively
We invite you to join and interact with thi panel of leading CIO's as we discuss and explore the following areas:
  • Deepening influence and building agreement
  • Creating management practices to produce good communication
    • Assure you are communication in a manner that is understandable to others
  • Building effective relationships at work
    • Recognize the power of informal networks - Tap into them and listen
  • Dealing with political and cultural currents in your company

"THE MOBILE AND REMOTE WORKFORCE - PROTECTING DATA AT THE EDGE OF THE NETWORK"
Presented by: Kevin Roden, CIO, Iron Mountain
Business Problem: As the number of remote and mobile workers increases, so does the amount of critical business data being created at the edge of the network. Most organizations tend to ignore this distributed data, leaving that information at risk. Availability and accessibility to critical business data means it needs to be protected and secure for recovery and compliance purposes.
IT Solution: Utilizing Continuous Data Protection such as PC backup and recovery, Server backup and recovery and DataDefense that automatically backup and protect distributed data that resides on devices operated by remote and mobile workers. Server and PC backup and recovery backs up and protects that data so it can be recovered. DataDefense is a multi-layered security application that can automatically encrypt and eliminate data on a laptop or PC if that device is lost or stolen.

Moderated by: Ray Epich, Corporate Vice President, Riverpoint Management Group
Panelists: Ellen Barry, Sr. VP & CIO, Chicago Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority
Robert Runcie, CIO Chicago Public Schools
Prof. Arkulgad Rapmaprasad, Director CRIM (Center for Research in
                 information Management), University of Illinois
Wayne Smith, CEO, iTest Quality Partners, Inc.
Discussion: Too often, CIOs focus on technical issues and development agendas with a dispropotionate amount of time and energy, while neglecting to build a solid foundation of business alignment, governance, and strategic planning. Before building such a foundation, CIOs must become " players" in the broadest sense, earning a seat at the executive management table. To qualify, CIOs must do the following: Build IT credibility by insuring that IT satisfiers are in place. Stay close to the locus of power. Hire the very best people. Create a working environment that encourages individual creativity and teamwork at the same time.

"FOUR REVELATIONS: FINDINGS FROM 10 YEARS OF MEASURING IT RISK AND VALUE WITH MATHEMATICAL METHODS"
Presented by: Doug Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research, Inventor of Applied Information Economics (AIE) and has critical praise from Gartner, Meta, Forester, and Giga Information Group. His articles and interviews are published in CIO Magazine, Information Week and Baseline Magazine. He derives his findings from 45 case studies done with the AIE method over the last 10 years.
Business Problem: Most IT organizations don't measure risk in the same way an actuary or statistician would and most don't attempt to build economic models to estimate even the most "intangible" benefits. This results in missing some of the most important trends, risks and metrics in IT today.
Solution: Using data from 45 statistical case studies with a total of over 3,000 variables and hundreds of tracked forecasts, Hubbard has found four key revelations that may profoundly affect what you measure, where you invest and how you control risks Hubbard Decision Research, Published numerous times in CIO Magazine

One of the more significant features of the CIO Forum and Executive IT Summit is the opportunity to meet with your peers and discuss and explore solutions to common issues. To facilitate this human resource networking capability we have initiated and installed in the Forum's agenda several “Birds of a Feather” quorums. They are designed to be simple, informal and very discussion oriented. Yet at the same time they will be facilitated by an experienced professional in the subject matter field. We are confident that as an attendee to the “Birds of a Feather” you will gain maximum benefit from your presence and participation.

Moderated by: Sheleen Quish, CIO-At-Large
Panelists: Frank Mallinder, Executive Coach
Alan Stimac, Consultant, Daugherty Inc., Former IT Project Manager, US Can
  Tom Olander, VP HR
Discussion: IT success is highly dependent on the success of the network: the humnan network. How do you as an IT leader/manager get all the different factions on the same page for the right reasons? This panel will explore how relationships between business users, business leaders, vendors and IT staff affect the outcome and value of IT investments. We will debate differnet ways to develop and nurture relationships and explore what collbaoration really means. The panel will share experiences, offer insights and practical tips to improve your success rate in IT management.

WORKSHOP - "ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURES: A MODEL FOR BUSINESS VALUE, RISK ANALYSIS AND PERFORMANCE METRICS"
Participants: Doug Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research
Milt Haynes, Director, IT Planning and Enterprise PMO, Abbott Laboratories
Examination: Enterprise Architectures (EA) are being developed for many organizations as the blueprint for a coordinated roadmap for all IT in the firm. However, most organizations feel that the benefits of EA are too “intangible” to assess value, compute risks or establish performance metrics. Pressenters will show a current working draft of a quantitative EA model for US Federal Government agencies. The approach is based on the Applied Information Economics method and will show how various organizations can develop a business case for EA that will show major risks, which parts of EA have the most value, the best way to proceed with a project and how to track its progress. This will be an interactive session discussing current EA initiatives at Abbott and others from the audience.
