Business Problem: IT executives are facing the daunting challenge of trying to deliver more value for the same or less cost. Outsourcing vendors claim to deliver improved service at lower costs. There are many options and factors to consider before deciding to outsource application development, application support or infrastructure management. What are the options and how do you insure success?
Discussion: IT Executives will discuss their first hand experience with Outsourcing and a panel of experts will discuss why companies consider outsourcing and the different types of outsourcing: applications development, application support, and infrastructure operations and support. The panel will also discuss the different options to consider: onsite, offsite and offshore. What are the key success factors? What are the common pitfalls? How does today's IT executive determine what is optimal for their organization. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions to all panel members.

SHOULD KNOW”
Presented by: Steve Spiewak, Sr. Marketing Manager, Iron Mountain
Mike Heiler, Special Agent, FBI Infragard.
Business Problem: With the availability of more sophisticated software and an increase in employee discontent, more IT departments are finding their computers and data to be at greater risk both through the network and from behind the console. The majority of these breaches of security could be eliminated if IT personnel were made aware of the issues and threats beforehand in order to set policies and procedures to combat the threats.

                        DSC Logistics
Mark Griesbaum, CIO, Career Education Corporation
Steve Szorc, CIO,Revcor Corporation and COO of V2R
Discussion: It's obvious that the options for contributing value to organizations through IT are changing and expanding. But it's less clear how IT executives can translate - and communicate - the value that IT can bring to the people they serve: executives, employees, users and - in many cases - suppliers, vendors and customers.
Using data from the profIT Research Initiative, a current study of IT value trends, as a starting point, you'll hear a distinguished panel of CIOs from a cross-section of organizations with widely diverse missions who will shed light on questions increasingly asked by IT executives: How do we determine the best way to add value to our business? What changes when we broaden our capabilities or change our focus? How do we "market" our services to others?

Bob Reed's bio
Moderated by: Cal Braunstein, President, Robert Frances Group
Panelists:Bob Reed, Managing Director, American Express Tax & Business Services
Business Problem:The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 impacts the Finance and IT organizations more than any other corporate departments. IT executives are getting concurring and conflicting inputs from internal auditors, outside consultants, software vendors, and others on what to do to comply with the regulations. IT executives are seeking unbiased inputs as to what actions to take to achieve compliance.
Solution: IT must become involved now, if not already involved. The June deadline is rapidly approaching and companies that are not prepared may become targets of government lawsuits. This panel will cover the issues that SOX brings to the table and how to address them.

Noon – 1:15PM LUNCHEON – BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Central Grand One of the more significant features of the CIO Forum and Executive IT Summit is the opportunity to meet with your peers and discuss and explore solutions to common issues. To facilitate this human resource networking capability we have initiated and installed in the Forum’s agenda sever “Birds of a Feather” quorums. They are designed to be simple, informal and very discussion oriented. Yet at the same time they will be facilitated by an experienced professional in the subject matter field. We are confident that as an attendee to the “Birds of a Feather” you will gain maximum benefit from your presence and participation.

Guy Gunzberg's bio
Moderated by: Ray Epic, Vice President, Riverpoint
Panelists: Jay Kurtzman, Sr. VP & CTO, Equity Residential

                 Guy Gunzberg, CTO, EVOKnowledge
Arkagud Ramaprasad, PhD, Dean, Dept. of Information and Decision Sciences, Director, Center for Research in Information Management, University of Illinois at Chicago
Discussion: The pane will present many contrasting views on this subject. Mr. Epich believes that the proper role for the CIO has not changed. The CIO should focus on solving business problems, not necessarily developing and running computer systems. He believes this always should have been the CIO’s role. Ms. Barry will focus more directly on the CIO’s role in insuring that the overall technology and infrastructure is correct, in the long run. This means that the CIO is increasingly faced with tough technical decisions. Mr. Kurtzman will focus on the CIO’s role in maintaining the organization’s technical compliance with the business plan. Panelists will discuss and present both supporting, and perhaps, opposing views.

Wendy Landenberger, VP Delivery Services, CNA and Co-Chair
                 PMO+CMO Leadership Group
Business problem: A great deal of the current IT industry press coverage is focused on one aspect or another of the challenge of connecting the appropriate level of IT resources to critical business requirements. This challenge covers the lifecycle of an IT investment, from concept to retirement, sometimes spanning ten years or more. In fact, very few companies have mastered the complete governance lifecycle to ultimately prove the value of business investments enabled by IT. This session will define the "IT value loop", identify critical milestones, and describe techniques to maximize IT investment return.
