CORPORATE GOVERNANCE CULTURE"
Presented by: David Nolan, Vice President of Consulting Services, Forsythe Solutions
Discussion: Achieving as culture of effective governance is the key to proactively managing risk. To reach this state, companies need to embrace a simplified, integrated approach, or be forever in the position of chasing a moving target. From a risk management perspective, instituting effective corporate governance means embracing a culture that extends beyond what regulators, and auditors tell you to do, to one in which you hold yourselves to a higher standard...an environment where every move also reduces risk, regardless of the primary need being addressed. In this framework, risk can never be overlooked or rationalized. The goal is to create a risk management culture where you continually architect, design, integrate and manage IT within this context. A culture where corporate policy drives strategy, which drives architecture, which drives operational excellence (service delivery), is an environment that builds trust in effective corporate governance among a company's employees, customers, partners, and investors.

Solution: Although there are times when adopting a “quick and dirty” solution may be necessary to meet deadlines, enterprises should avoid committing to much time, effort or data to such systems. Find out how to automate to keep your business processes up to date with your changing business needs and challenges while complying with the new laws and regulations. Automate your systems so your company can continue to grow while maintaining control through improved visibility of critical information.

Moderated by: Cal Braunstein, President, Robert Frances Group
Panelists: Gary Ivey, Partner, Alston & Bird
Business Problem: The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 impacts the Finance and IT organizations more than any other corporate departments. IT executives are getting concurring and conflicting inputs from internal auditors, outside consultants, software vendors, and others on what to do to comply with the regulations. IT executives are seeking unbiased inputs as to what actions to take to achieve compliance.
Solution: IT must become involved now, if not already involved. The June deadline is rapidly approaching and companies that are not prepared may become targets of government lawsuits. This panel will cover the issues that SOX brings to the table and how to address them.
