  Tom Egan
Conference Director, CIO,
Immaculata University

Tom Egan has considerable experience in delivering and managing state-of-the art, enterprise-wide Information Technology (IT) resources, and their supporting organizational infrastructures, including planning, funding, acquisition, staffing, development, vendor relationships, and implementation. Tom is a strong leader, facilitator, enabler, organizer and problem solver. He is a highly motivated, high-energy, flexible person. He possesses excellent communication skills, listens well, and works well with people. He understands cost containment, full life cycle costs, metric-based solutions and total cost of ownership. Tom believes that the appropriate role for IT is in the solution of business problems, its ability to contribute to the bottom line.

Dr. Egan is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Immaculata University for SunGard Higher Education where he and his team are responsible for Administrative Computing including the Banner ERP system, Network Operations and Technical Support and Academic Technology Services including Instruction Design.

As co-founder, president and CEO of Elementum Inc. Tom helped develop a successful professional services firm with expertise in: IT strategic consulting; project management; digital networks; telecommunications, software development and e-business. Elementum is a closely held, privately owned, S corporation with no outside investors.

As executive director of the Business Technology Center of the School of Business and Public affairs at West Chester University (WCU) Tom generated over $45 million from numerous agencies and private businesses to support efforts centered on assisting businesses, IT start ups, and others with technology transfer, funding, sales and marketing, product development, quality assurance, and operations.

At WCU his past experiences included responsibility for all aspects of the offices responsible for MIS including systems, networks, facilities, planning, telecommunications and multimedia and taught courses in IT, e-Business, statistics, mathematics, modeling and simulation. He has been responsible for site acquisition, construction, utilities, operations centers, policies and procedures, resource utilization, performance targets, capacity planning, change management, problem resolution, technology planning, staffing, IT resource acquisition and bidding, and vendor relationships.

Tom has successfully assisted multiple companies in bringing IT products to market; and has helped many others use IT to improve their bottom line. He has started four for-profit companies, serving as an officer on each and as President/CEO on three. He assisted in the formation of two non-profit corporations (serving as a board member on each), served on three University Presidential Cabinets, and has held membership on numerous governmental and not-for-profit committees. He also helped design, implement, and operate Chesconet, the first community-based wide area digital network in Pennsylvania as well as KCnet, in Clinton County and YATEC in York County. KCnet estimated that by building a countywide coalition, and employing creative acquisition and business strategies, operating costs for its new network, when compared to former contracts, resulted in an annual savings of approximately sixty-percent. The York network was implemented with a cost savings estimated to be in the neighborhood of seventy percent, over $1 million annually, when compared to initial proposals.

Tom is a sought after speaker at both the regional and national levels on topics including strategic planning and direction of Information Technology; e-Business directions and capabilities; digital networks; and future directions within telecommunications.
